Studio Newborn Sessions
What to Expect

My studio newborn sessions are a mix of lightly posed portraits and natural, candid moments, all with the goal of capturing you, your family, and your new baby in a simple, artistic way.

The studio is filled with beautiful natural light, white walls, and neutral furniture, creating a soft, simple backdrop that keeps the focus on your connection with your baby. I'll offer gentle posing and direction throughout the session while leaving plenty of room for those sweet, unscripted moments that happen in between.

Along with family photos, I'll capture some simple portraits of your baby on their own, whether they're curled up on the bed or resting in the woven basket or antique cradle.

We'll let your baby help set the pace for the session. If they're sleeping when you arrive, we may start with their solo portraits. If they're wide awake, we might begin with family photos instead. There's no set order or pressure to do things a certain way. We'll follow your baby's lead and allow the session to unfold naturally.

Ideas on What to Wear and Extras

Soft neutral fabrics always work well and patterns can be great too. Simple earthy tones work well with babies. A neutral onesie with a knit sweater or special blanket to add texture will photograph well. Pops of color are fun and add visual interest.

It's a good idea to start with baby in your favorite outfit first. We can do multiple outfits, but if baby is asleep we may want to minimize wardrobe changes.

  • Think about simple earthy tones. Your favorite jeans and a nice t-shirt can look just as cute as a dress!

  • For dresses I love Baltic Born & Joyfolie. Poshmark and Facebook Marketplace are a great place to get dresses that have only been worn once or twice. I also have some dresses available to borrow, if you are interested please let me know!

  • Texture always looks great in photos!

  • Start with mom's outfit first then add the rest of the outfits from there.

  • Wear what you feel comfortable and cute in.

  • Please avoid logos

  • Don't forget about footwear! Bare feet can be an option for some of the images.

  • Please feel free to e-mail with questions and photos of clothing or to consult about wardrobe ideas.

  • Target, H&M, and Old Navy have great options for kids & dads.

Extras!

You are welcome to bring any blankets, hats, headbands, toys, and a wardrobe change for baby to add variety.

Knitted booties, stuffed animals or a special book for your toddler to read to baby can also be fun.

The studio is a light-filled space with white walls, soft natural light, and neutral furniture that creates a simple, timeless backdrop for your photos. I have several furniture options, including a couch, chairs, daybed, a woven basket and an antique cradle that we can incorporate if you would like.

We can also use the big white wall for minimalist background as well as the windows and white curtains.

Antique cradle for use if you like.

FAQ

  • What about siblings? I love to include siblings! Together we can determine the safest supported way to get the sibling images. Laying older siblings next to baby on the bed works really well!

  • What if I need to feed or change my baby? If possible feed your baby before the session, but don't worry if you need to do so again during our session. You can pause to comfort and take care of your baby as needed. I am always happy to take photos of nursing/feeding if you would like.

  • What if my baby is crying? I make sure to have plenty of time so it's ok to spend time feeding and settling baby. If baby is truly too upset we can talk about rescheduling for another date soon but this is extremely rare.

  • Any other questions? Please let me know!
